5.10.1. Google and Bing images

Usually, although not always, search engines like Google or Bing show images from company websites that are not royalty free by default. This means that if you are keeping an assets log for a project, you should identify images from search engines as copyright, unless you are super sure on the source.

5.10.2. Explanation

When content is created, the creator automatically has copyright for the content. This means it cannot be taken and used without payment or permission. Content can include images, videos and sound.

Creators can choose to release their work as royalty free which means you can use it without paying a fee, or getting permission. However, if you want to use it for commercial purposes, you still need to get permission from the original creator.

This is only a simple explanation so make sure you do your own research. There are different licencing options. For example, Creative Commons identify different types of licences creators can release their content with.
