2.4. Components of computers

“A computer is an electronic device that manipulates information, or data. It has the ability to store, retrieve, and process data.” (Source: What is a computer?)

There are a lot of components inside computers - you have probably heard a lot of them mentioned but not be quite sure where they are or exactly what they do.

2.4.1. Core hardware components

Create a presentation about the following computer components as a minimum:

  • Motherboard

  • Processor

  • Computer RAM

  • Graphics card

  • Another component of your choice

On each page, as a minimum, include:

  • Title

  • Picture

  • Definition

  • Source of information

2.4.2. Hardware vs software

What is hardware and what is software? Consider definitions and differences. Consider the link between hardware and software - how are they connected and how do they interact?

Add the following three slides to your presentation as a minimum:

  • Hardware

  • Software

  • Hardware vs Software

2.4.3. Recommend a computer

Consider different purposes of computers. Faster PCs are generally more expensive. How much money do you think you need to spend?

Research PCs/laptops/tablets. Make a recommendation for the following situations:

  • Device for school work

  • Device for gaming

  • Device for casual use on the sofa

Add a page for each to your presentation. Include a title, picture, price and link as well as an explanation of why you recommend it.
